Contract History

CME® Lean Hog futures offers both near term and longer term trading and spreading strategies based on the supply and demand of current cash hog, product prices and the longer term cyclical pricing patterns. The cash settlement feature also makes this a viable hedging tool for international producers and pork importers and/or exporters.

The United States is the world's largest pork exporter. The geographical location of pork production is centered close to the main source of hog feed: corn. Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, and Missouri account for more than half of our country’s total pork production. The price of feed greatly affects the supply of pork products.
